Students drown while on school trip
The body of one of the young men who drowned while swimming at a beach in Norwich in Portland has been recovered. The Marine Police in Portland were forced to abort search and rescue efforts for the other student Thursday night due to rough seas and poor visibility.
The two grade ten boys were among a group of approximately 30 students from the St Andrew College in Kingston who journeyed to St. Mary Banana estate on an educational trip Thursday morning February 2.
It’s understood that about three o’clock in the afternoon the bus with the students pulled up at Shan Shy Beach. The teens went swimming in the choppy seas. They reportedly got into difficulties and were swept away from shore in an easterly direction.
