Paulwell to ask Cabinet to consider gas reduction proposals
Energy Minister Phillip Paulwell is to ask the Cabinet to consider proposals to reduce the impact of rising gas prices on consumers. The commitment came after a meeting with stakeholders in the petroleum industry Friday. Minister of State in the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, Julian Robinson highlights the proposals that will be under consideration.
Mr Robinson added that the Commerce Minister Anthony Hylton, who was also present at the meeting today, said he will work with the industry on the issue of rebate given to Petrojam customers. The JGRA has long argued that a 1 dollar 50 cents per litre rebate which Petrojam gives marketing companies ought properly to be paid over to the gasoline retailers which will then be passed on in a gasoline price reduction of that amount to consumers.
