The court case brought by the National Environment and Planning Agency, NEPA, against mining company WINDALCO is to be heard on April 3. The date was set Tuesday when the matter was mentioned in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court. NEPA says it needs time to deal with administrative matters concerning the case which is being handled by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. In August last year, WINDALCO pleaded not guilty after NEPA accused it of discharging improperly-treated industrial effluent into the Old Johns Gully in Ewarton, St. Catherine. NEPA served enforcement notices on WINDALCO after investigationsconfirmed that effluent had been released and was posing a threat to the environment.  In addition, WINDALCO was required to post signs around the contaminated areas identifying the corrosive nature of the effluent.
