The secret of freedom lies in educating people, whereas the secret of tyranny is in keeping them ignorant - Maximilien de Robespiere

The Minister of Education has indicated that there will in the future be a gradual change in the GSAT format to encourage analytical thinking instead of learning by rote since , as he so correctly points out , memory is the lowest form of intelligence. The challenge we face as a nation is that we have given to our leaders the responsibility to think for us. We have become casual observers repeating what we are told depending on our peculiar bias. By doing so we become unwitting pawns in a perpetual political game which benefits those who desire to lead or occupy the coveted position of leadership.
We have become indolent and some believe they are entitled to things that they have not worked for and seek to make others feel guilty about being successful. We have become cowardly in failing to call a spade a spade and a fool a fool. We listen to preposterous arguments and fail to call them out such as the mindless suggestion of gender quotas posited by Senator Imani Duncan Pryce and the patois crusade of Dr. Cooper . Some are swayed by the elementary rhyming skill of a Vybz Kartel set to pulsating rhythms and call it brilliance so much so that he was invited to give a lecture at the University of the West Indies. The only thing worse than keeping people ignorant is when people see ignorance as enlightenment.
